It's possible to learn guitar from the comfort of your own home.

Guitar courses and lessons are all over the internet. Some are excellent, while others are just plain bad. You'll be pleasantly surprised at how well an effective guitar course will help you. You'll learn at your own pace, and easily master your favorite songs.

We decided to have a look at the products available for people interested in learning to play guitar. We purchased and used 15 products. Only 3 were truly worth their purchase price. Our tests show a wide variety of programs available on the market, with only a few standouts that deliver actual value.

Guitar Product Criteria

We decided that we should consider three things when evaluating a product. Skill Level, Ease of Use, and Cost.

Skill Level

Beginners through Advanced players should get something out of the lessons. There is nothing worse than being an intermediate player and purchasing a product, only to find out it's for beginners. The products we review all provide information that anyone can use to become proficient with the guitar.

Ease of Use

The product must be easy to use. The easier it is to use, the more likely you are to actually learn to play guitar. Several products we didn't list below were so hard to use we never figured out their more "advanced" features.

Cost

Any product over $70 got thrown out. We felt it was reasonable to assume anything over $70 was out of the price range of the "average" consumer. There are a couple more expensive products, but they don't deliver the kind of value these products do.

Our First Choice: Jamorama
Jamorama

Musician Ben Edwards developed Jamorama because he was not happy with the other products on the market. Since that time he has helped thousands of people learn to play guitar.

It's no surprise Jamorama is at the top of our list. With the price being under $40, and a money-back satisfaction guarantee, Jamorama really delivers the most bang for your buck.

You get 2 ebooks, video lessons, 1000s of guitar tabs, and more. They even have a couple of games you can download to sharpen your ear, or help you to read music.

Jamorama is in our estimation the best product available to learn how to play guitar online. It gives you everything you need at a great price.

Our Second Choice: Guitar Scale Mastery
Guitar Scale Mastery

37 year old Craig Bassett learned guitar just before his 18th birthday and has been playing, and teaching others how to play ever since. Craig's Guitar Scale Mastery is an in-depth look at scales, and how to use them to learn guitar.

Guitar Scale Mastery shows you everything you need to know about the guitar and especially how to use the scales. Learning scales is arguably the most important thing you can do to become an expert with the guitar.

The music theory, practice tips, and excersizes alone are nearly worth the difference in price to our first choice. We were however, disappointed with the lack of video lessons. At a price just under $70, we expected a little more.

Our Third Choice: Guitar Tutor Pro
Guitar Tutor Pro

Ryan Cameron is the man behind Guitar Tutor Pro. Guitar Tutor Pro is 3 ebooks, with accompanying audio tracks. This plain looking website hides a superb product suitable for beginners to advanced guitarists.

Guitar Tutor Pro is well organized and gives a solid foundation to build on. Everything you need to learn to play the guitar is included. It lacks some features that our first choice has, but it makes up for it in excellent content.

The price of just under $50 is good, but can't beat the under $40 price of our first choice.
